IELTS

There's a lot of requirement particularly if you are planning to work abroad. One of these is English proficiency. There are different examinations and IELTS is required in countries like United Kingdom, Canada and other English speaking countries. This test requires writing, speaking, reading and listening. The highest score is 9.0. Usually a 7.0 over-all score in all category is required particularly in the United Kingdom. I hope to share some ideas for you to learn. There are two categories: academic and general. General is required for immigration process when you are planning to go to Canada.

LISTENING:
This is usually the hardest examination because you need an ear to listen for an American, British or any accent as played on the tape. To get use to the accent you are required to see an English movie and watch English TV station. Some words maybe too fast because of the liaison. The connection between words may bring new meaning to our ears. It takes a lot of patience and appreciation of the English language to be able to pass listening.

READING:
We started reading since we went to school. The problem is not just looking at the words, phrases, or sentences but understanding it. The examination is hard because you are under time pressure. You need to read a question and answer it for a very limited time. The questions asked are catchy that understanding is the only tool to be able to answer it.

WRITING:
I bet this is easier than reading because the person taking the exam is allowed to express his thoughts, wishes, dreams and desires. This is one way communication because there are no other source of ideas except the person writing it. It is too easy. Once a topic is given, think about how to expound it. There should be an introduction, the body or content and the conclusion. Usually the introduction should excite the reader. A very unusual introduction is an exclamatory statement. The body should be long enough to be able to hold the 150 or 250 words as required. To make the body longer sight examples. A statement like firstly, secondly, thirdly will help to clarify issues being stated. Then finally make a great conclusion.

SPEAKING:
Finally, speaking for me is the easiest. Some people want to talk but they hate listening. Talking is great as long as you can express yourself well. A smile takes the nervousness away. First impression is very important . Being properly groomed and smelling great makes the conversation cool. The person should be rich in words. Usually the problem is in grammar.

GRAMMAR :

Subject + Verb + Modifier

Subject- what is being talked about; should have a verb always
; a noun; a pronoun (he, she, it) ; gerund (noun + ing)

Verb- action word but may also be not active; linking verb (is, are, am, be) ; auxiliary verb (do,to)

Modifier - close to the word it modifies ; give more description to what is being talked about a word; clause

Adjective - describes a noun
Adverb - describes a verb
Preposition- describes time and space

Comparative- with er
Superlative - with (i)est
